Des Lewis’ Minimal Holiday Wardrobe Edit
Stylist and art director Des Lewis shares her key pieces for a minimal and understated holiday wardrobe
It definitely feels like it is time to escape from this ‘not playing ball’ lack of a summer situation we are in here in London, where we don’t know from one day to the next which season it’s going to be; where sweaters and heating are still on standby!!! I for one am ready to flex my finely honed packing skills, and have put together a holiday wardrobe edit for you to kickstart your effortless summer style.
When it comes to luggage my dream is this,
but my reality is this. It’s super-light, and because they’re not structured I find I can squeeze in any holiday purchases! I recently bought this very chic Kassl Editions tote, which I’m obsessed with and have used almost every day this past month, and will use it as my carry-on, a beach bag and for any shopping trips to local markets. Much like my everyday pieces, I stick to neutrals on holiday, opting for lightweight fabric pieces that can work for day or night. I’m not a lover of sarongs so my beach cover ups tend to be shirts, shorts or dresses which then double-up to wear for day trips or when out for dinner (I add earrings to elevate evening looks). For swimwear, I tend to go for maximum coverage with a one piece or a bikini with generous size bottoms! A pair of sturdy sandals like these for walking and sightseeing, then something simple and elegant for the evening, plus some flip flops for by the pool are all that’s required in the footwear department. A few essentials like sunglasses and a hat for extra sun protection and you’re good to go!
