For The Love Of Free People

I have been a fan of for some time now, and you have probably noticed its presence in my own wardrobe (via Instagram) as well as in my Sunday Style edits. I would literally find it impossible not to find something great on a weekly basis. Think laid-back boho-esque meets rock & roll LA vibes in the form of pretty, romantic dresses (they have some of the best white dresses around…) and blouses, cool band tees, slouchy shorts and trousers, dungarees, jumpsuits, cool boots, quilted jackets, and some of my favourite flat sandals around this summer. Basically pretty much all the LS staples under one roof! For me it’s the perfect mix of pretty, cool and tomboy. Sometimes the styling on the site can be a little full-on for more simple, pared-back tastes (personally I loved all their signature layering), but don’t let that put you off (or think it’s too young)- there are always plenty of different images to look at, and the trick is to imagine the piece in your own wardrobe, styled with your own things (as much as I might like chunky socks with clogs and dungarees, it’s not going to happen in my life..). I love that they’re not super trend-led pieces either – there’s a definite signature style with Free People, and because it’s DNA is really relaxed, their pieces work effortlessly with other pieces from other brands. Plus, I just know that at any given time I can have a quick look on the site and find a fab dress/jumpsuit/pretty blouse/pair of slouchy boyish trousers/tee/jacket, whether it’s for me personally, for Sunday Style, or both.

It can be quite an overwhelming site to navigate – there is A LOT of stuff on there. You do have to put the time in, but if you do, there is gold to be mined. And I love that you can score something amazing, and not necessarily see everyone else wearing it too, which can be annoying (aka ‘the Zara effect’). Anyway, you don’t need to put the hours in, that’s what I’m here for!! And you know I’ll find the best of the best!

Another thing I love about Free People (similar to Sézane, one of my other favourite brands), is that they regularly re-stock popular pieces. So if there’s something on your Wish List and it’s out of stock in your size, don’t get too disheartened – just keep checking back, and chances are your patience will pay off.

So now for the pieces I’m wearing. Firstly this (first featured on Little Spree back in March, so I’ve had my eye on it for a while now…). Beyond dreamy. I love the simplicity of the shape, with just the beautiful bow (which you can adjust, depending on how you tie/style it). It’s not revealing, but I always think the whole  shoulder/clavicle area is lovely to highlight if you don’t necessarily want to bare too much flesh. Sexy, but not SEXY. Plus, I love pink (although it also comes in ) and I lOVE a bow, so this was always going to be the dress for me. I love that it’s floor-length (how many actual floor-sweeping dresses do we own? Me: one) and it even has pockets (ok, so pockets are no longer big news in dresses these days, in fact, good luck finding one that doesn’t have pockets!), but for more special, evening dresses, this is still a rarity. I’m wearing mine with these (did I mention that every single piece has a cool different name?). I am planning on wearing this to a family wedding in July.
Next up is something I actually never thought I’d get onboard with, let alone love wearing! I decided to be a little braver than normal (I’m not a risk-taker by nature), and choose something that I wouldn’t necessarily choose, but liked the idea of – the knitted co-ord (aka the ). Wow, I am now fully converted! As comfortable as a tracksuit (not that I actually own one, so let’s go with  pyjamas…), but waaaaaaay chic-er, and surprisingly (to me anyway) flattering. That’s a lot of ticked boxes there! Again, love it with a simple black sandal. And by the very nature of a co-ord, you immediately feel and look ‘pulled together’. Yes to that.
For the final looks, I chose two very relaxed, more holiday/beachy dresses (ever the optimist!) (the Natural Element Midi Dress) feels a bit like a gorgeous nightdress/white summer dress hybrid (two of my favourite things). Love the unstructured shape and the romantic puffed sleeves. The pockets and adjustable neckline are a bonus too. (the Sunkissed Crochet Kaftan) is a definite beach-to-bar kaftan-style situation. Perfect to  chuck on over your bikini/swimsuit when you’re on route  to the beach/to dinner , still want to look chic, but still feel comfortable. Love! One day…
