Boutique Chic

I do love a little boutique. Always have. But I suppose, now that I am doing more and more of my clothes shopping online, when I do actually go shopping for clothes, I’m more particular than ever as to what that actual shopping ‘experience’ is, and how it makes me feel; and I suppose the environment as a whole. I have visited KJs Laundry (situated on Marylebone Lane, just off Marylebone High Street in Central London – a great little shopping hub that never seems to get crazy-busy, even pre-Covid, and one of my favourites…) before, during and after lockdown, and each time (putting aside masks and hand sanitiser for the moment) the experience has been the same – welcoming atmosphere, low-key, friendly, knowledgeable, helpful(never pushy!) service, and with a great edit of many of my favourite brands (Ulla Johnson, Masscob, Sea New York, Vanessa Bruno etc…)  – aka my retail heaven!
They also have their own small collection of simple, covetable pieces at great prices. I’m a little obsessed with their gorgeous Victorian-esque blouses, which come in a selection of (perfect) colours. Trust me, they’re so great – I live in mine – with jeans, khaki trousers, under dungarees…
My other current favourites are…
This Bellerose parka in khaki (they have more coming…). Honestly, the first parka I have ever tried on that I didn’t feel frumpy in (in fact, far from it!). And don’t even get me started on the gorgeous (fake, obviously) fur lining. SO soft and cosy. I love all the subtle design details, such as the oversized silhouette, dropped shoulder (an Isabel Marant favourite) and black and industrial white striped ties. It’s these that set it apart from the others. I love it with jeans and heeled boots, but equally fab with flat boots/trainers.
This Masscob dress. Love the Autumnal tones, the ruffle trim, the pleated yoke, and the fine gold lurex thread (what is it about a lurex thread anyway – gets me every time!) running through. A gorgeous, feminine (but not girly) dress that still manages to be the right side of cool. I’ve been wearing mine with a tweed blazer and high, slouchy ankle boots. And loving it.
These amazing Ulla Johnson jeans. I like that they’re technically a jean, but more like a cool trouser. I was dubious at first (loved them, but was pretty sure I wouldn’t  be able to pull them off), but just tried them on for fun (a testament to a great boutique – feeling comfortable and relaxed enough to try things that you wouldn’t normally), but then loved them on!!  I also like that they’re an acid wash, but a ‘mild’ acid wash, high waisted with a paperbag tie waist, and the button details on the ankle (I turn mine up).  So great for ‘going out’ (whatever that means these days??) when you don’t want to wear jeans, but you want to feel like you would in your jeans (out, but not necessarily ‘out out’).
Also loving this coat, this jumper (great knit for layering over your lightweight summer dresses. Love the colour), this jacket (so chic with denim), this gorgeous sweatshirt (I mean…), this shirt, and this blouse.
So many treasures under one (boutique) roof.
