Monochrome Minis

The chic, pretty, easy-to-wear dress that works best with black opaques and flats

This may seem quite niche, but hear us out. We’ve noticed these monochrome little babydoll-style dresses popping up quite a lot this Autumn, and we’re loving them. Sarah already has a couple in her wardrobe from previous seasons ( & Other Stories and John Lewis), and come the Winter months wears them a lot. What we love about them is that you can defer to the trusty black opaques – black tights + flats (more of those later) = shorter hemlines than you might normally consider with a bare leg in the Summer. Just us? Anyway, we’re loving the simplicity of the monochrome and all the pretty details (in no particular order) – Peter Pan collars, little bows/bow ties, lace trims, bibs (not the dribbling variety), tulle, scalloped trims… And the fact that they’re all monochromatic stops the look from becoming too girly. Think Claudia Winkleman as opposed to Tiny Tears. Also, as fab for day as for night – an oversized tweed blazer for am, black blazer for pm.
Oh and shoes? We’re loving a simple flat with ours. Think ballet pumps, Mary Janes, loafers, brogues… Just give the heels the night off.
xx
